Just a brief description. My main idea is to bring together some interesting facts about makeups.

Here is a part of what I’ve done for when I’m trying to create an infographic; understanding the placement and size for both headline and image.

It’s amazing how the size and placement could actually affect in capturing viewers’ attention.

Press for Service,

This is something that I saw when I was at Johor Baru (JB) about 2 weeks ago. Where was this from? A restaurant that my family and I were at for late lunch. The first thing that caught my attention when I sat at the table was this device or product.

To be descriptive, it was an overall white colour made out of a material like acrylic, it is light and it has this black circular shape popping out. The words, “Press for Service” was clearly stated at the top of the product. I’m not sure if this had been used at other places, but this was my first time seeing such things.

The black circular shape that pops out is actually the button where customers would press and it will give out a sound to indicate that the customers needs the staffs service in assisting them. The sound was a little too loud but I guess  it will help if the they are short-handed with staffs or when they are busy so that they will be notified that there are other customers who needs their assistance.

I am actually pleased with this invention. I do support this and I think it’s a good way for both the staffs and customers as well. It is like killing two birds with one stone.

Websites,

So, each time i enter a website, normally it would have been designed with colors, fonts, textures etc to go along with the website. This includes blog sites. People would take time to customize their own site be it, professional looking or just something that is done because the owner likes it.

Examples, Twitter and Facebook. I suppose it is the most commonly used social networking sites. People have taken the time to have the website done in to be visually appealing to the eyes. It’s not plain, it’s not just a bunch of words and/or links chunked to one side or scatter everywhere.

I happened to click on this website, http://singapore.craigslist.com.sg/

It’s simple. To a certain extent it’s plain. The usage of colors are also very minimal. Can i say that the colors used are ‘safe colors” too? The colors do not clash with one another. The colors do not sink into the background which makes the words hard to read. Although the website it’s not done to be something that is visually appealing (in terms of design), i must say it’s organized. It’s put into categories and that helps the users to cut down time in reading every link that appears on the page.

I guess, not all nicely designed websites equals to a good website (in terms of organizing, helping users to get their information fast and easily)

I was surfing the net and read quite a few about Information Architecture. Before i went on to that, i did have some thoughts on why Information Architecture is important.

It’s interesting to find out that there are various meanings/thoughts about what is Information Architecture and to why is it important. It got me thinking, is/are there different paths on to what is Information Architecture and why is it important?

Definition of Information Architecture separately; Information comes in forms like data, statistics, numbers/figures, facts or probably evidences. Architecture has the same meaning to construction or building. Information architecture is the structuring of information for the users.

In the past, when I hear Information Architecture, I will think of websites. When I think of that, I would link to be something easy to be done, something fun to do and something that is stress-free. It sounds like, coming up with a draft, happy with it? Than move on to do some graphic design to beautify the website and boooooom, it’s done. However, it doesn’t sound like it in reality?

“Information architecture is the term used to describe the structure of a system, i.e the way information is grouped, the navigation methods and terminology used within the system.
An effective information architecture enables people to step logically through a system confident they are getting closer to the information they require. Most people only notice information architecture when it is poor and stops them from finding the information they require.”
